He’s the president of Britain’s TV and film academy.
William is accompanied by Kate in her black velvet suit and jacket. Kate was wearing an Alexander McQueen gown , which she attended the BAFTAs. Helen Mirren paid honor to the Queen’s granddaughter, William’s mother, Elizabeth II, who passed away in September. Admired for her screen portrayal of the Queen and also for her role in ‘The Audience’, Mirren described Elizabeth “the leader of the nation”. In an effort to diversify their advertisement in , Britain’s Film Academy implemented changes as there were no women named Best Director for the seventh consecutive year, and the nominees for the lead roles in films were white.
Eleven women directors were eligible to be considered for advertising across the spectrum, including documentaries as well as animated films. However, only one of the most prestigious best-director nominees was female: Gina Prince Bythewood’s work on “The Women King”. Krishnendu Majumdar (chair of BAFTA) said that reflecting at the academy was a difficult and humble process and added that the academy would keep doing the “vital work” that is required to create an equal playing field. The show’s opening song was Ariana DeBose sang “Sisters Are Doing it for Themselves” along with a rapper’s tribute to some of the Nominated females like Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, and more.
The BAFTAs this year have been an incredible display of cooperation, diversity and respect. The goal for BAFTAs is to celebrate diversity, unity and respect. BAFTAs is to bring attention to the amazing talent that Britain is able to provide in film and beyond. The BAFTAs focused attention on not only William, Kate, Helen Mirren, but also the lack of diversity among individuals chosen for lead roles in films. That’s why the whole sector should be more tolerant to recognizing people with different backgrounds. This way, we’ll be able to create an environment that is more inclusive and unifying.
